"The Envirolet was a great solution."

Posted by Scott

Sean in North Carolina sent us some nice photos of his Envirolet® Low Water Remote System installation, along with some great comments.

Sean installed the composting unit (tank) inside a Rubbermaid tool shed. What a great idea! It will provide protection from the elements and some insulation!

“Here are 3 pics of my low water remote system. We set it up outside in a Rubbermaid tool shed that we customized for this purpose. It has been operating for almost one year now with no problems. The Envirolet was a great solution for our need for a bathroom in an out building on our farm that we converted to a guest house. Thanks for a great product!”

Envirolet with a gazebo on top!

Posted by Scott

Here’s a quick follow-up to a previous post about Debbie in Virginia.

I emailed Debbie to thank her for sending her photos and she replied with another great photo. This one is of her unique cabin that is still being built.

“Scott, thanks - I enjoy looking through the web site and seeing what others are doing. I’ll attach another photo to this just for giggles… in it you can see our cabin in progress, and the 8’ X 8’ side addition for the bathroom. I bet I’ve got the only Envirolet that has a gazebo on top! We ran the vent pipe up to the top of the gazebo so it draws really well.”

Click on the photo or here for a larger view. Then look on the right hand side of the gazebo and you should be able to see the vent pipe (white) for Debbie’s Envirolet® MS10.

"The toilet has done great in spite of the cold winter temperatures."

Posted by Scott

Debbie sent us a great photo of her “beary beautiful” (she came up with that - click on the photo for a larger view to see why it’s “beary!”) bathroom in Virginia. Her Envirolet® MS10 in green granite (wsith Oak Seat) looks awesome too!

“I would love to share the bathroom we’ve been working on at our tiny cabin in the VA mountains. We bought the Envirolet composting toilet last fall and installed it in an unfinished room.

The rest of the cabin is unfinished, but this winter we did some work on the bathroom because I’m just so pleased to have it! The toilet has done great in spite of the cold winter temperatures, there’s been no odor, and it sure has beat the heck out of trying to put in a septic system. Since we have no running water the current “bathtub” is just a big plastic storage bin… whatever works, you know?

Others that live in the area have been watching our progress and are fascinated with the concept of a composting toilet - a couple of them may be contacting you one day to buy their own.”

Thanks for the comments, Debbie! And, a good percentage of Envirolet® sales are a result of a referral from one friend (or family memeber) to another. There is no better referral. This is why we created our Refer-A-Friend program to reward people like Debbie (with cold cash!) who direct customers to us so they can start saving water too! Learn more here.

Why not send us your Envirolet® installation photos too!

"Sure beats the sometimes cold and wet trips to the old outside privy"

Posted by Scott

Mike of Fall River, Nova Scotia sent us some excellent photos and comments about his Envirolet® MS10 composting toilet system installation.

“These photos are of a temporary set up of our Envirolet while renovations are being made at my cottage located near St. Andrews, N.B. The vent pipe is now covered with insulated tape.

Just having this set up sure beats the sometimes cold and wet trips to the old outside privy particulary at night when one can never predict what one might bump into, e.g., skunks.”

Tree Frog Green

Posted by Scott

Our fairly new Bright Green system color is now going to be called Tree Frog Green!

We had an inter-office brainstorming session and Tree Frog Green was the coolest name offered up. And, the color is pretty close to the color of a tree frog, especially the Japanese Tree Frog. The only thing missing are the orange highlights…

envirolet_tree_frog_green.jpg

Right now, this color is only available for Waterless Self-Contained Systems, but should be available for Waterless Remote Systems soon.

Pay attention to Buzz because we have more exciting Envirolet® color announcements coming soon!

Comments: This merchant offered different payment methods which simplified the purchasing process. Delivery was fine, customer service was fine, but I have yet to experience any problems to judge them. I wish shipping were included since the product I purchased was expensive as it was without shipping but overall this merchant was great so far.

"We love it!!!"

Posted by Scott

Richard and Jim sent us some nice photos and comments on May 10, 2006 about their Envirolet® MS10 installation in Washington. The system is installed in a beautiful garden setting.

“Good Morning:

A note and some pictures to let you know that our composting toilet has been “enshrined” and functioning now for several months. The wood came from an old home in town that was built in the 1941 and also a few remnants from an old local church.

We love it!!!”

"They are certainly less hassle than any other sort of boat toilet."

Posted by Scott

Alan T. in the UK, who has an Envirolet® composting toilet system on his narrowboat, wrote to the extraordinary narrowboat blog site Granny Buttons about his system.

“We have had an Envirolet composting toilet for almost two years and are very happy with it. They are certainly less hassle than any other sort of boat toilet.

We don’t live on our boat but we do use it for several weeks and lots of weekends each year. We haven’t had to empty it yet although we may need to fairly soon.

They are quite large and would be difficult to retrofit in many boats. The fan runs all the time and can be a bit irritating sometimes.

I bought the toilet direct from Envirolet in Canada. I fitted it myself, very simple, just cut a hole in the roof and provide power.

“The fan has two settings; it is turned down at night but it’s still a bit noisy, though to be fair this is partly my fault. It should have a wind turbine thing on top of the flue outside, it’s quieter with this on, for some reason.”

This helps explain any fan noise he has!:

“But I misjudged the height of a tunnel last summer and knocked the thing off into the canal. Not got round to replacing it yet.”

Great comments, Alan. But, watch out for those tunnels!

Seriously though, when Alan hit the tunnel and lost his wind turbine, he may have agitated the entire vent pipe from the force of the hit. This could have broken some of the silicone seal and could be causing a rattling in the vent, hence the noise. Alan needs to check the vent line and re-caulk.

He is also correct when he says the fans seem quieter when the turbine is connected. The fans on a system are normally pretty quiet. Another reason for a noisy fan can be if something (like a twig) is caught in it. Most fan issues can be easily remedied. If the issue continues, he should contact us to discuss further and replace the fans (under warranty) if required.

Ban the Flush

"Do you know what happens to the stuff you flush down your toilet?"

Posted by Scott

There’s a nice article in the Daily Press of Hampton, Virginia by Benjamin Cuker about the need to responsibly handle waste water.

He writes:

“Do you know what happens to the stuff you flush down your toilet? Did you know that if you live in Hampton or Newport News that most of your feces end up as carbon dioxide, contributing to the greenhouse effect that is causing global warming? Yes, flushing your toilet helps to melt the polar icecaps, raise sea level, kill coral reefs and intensify hurricanes.”
