Another option that’s gaining popularity is the composting toilet. “The interest has been going up in the last few years, as there’s more focus on green issues and water shortages,” says Scott Smith of Sancor, a Canadian company that makes a line of low-water and waterless composting toilets. The units use aeration, evaporation and microbial activity to turn human waste into compost material.
