February 26th, 2011: For the first time at an Ontario consumer show,
Ed Begley, Jr., Hollywood’s eco-activist, will bring his entertaining message on sustainable living to
The Spring Cottage Life Show on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 1 p.m.
Ed Begley, Jr. first came to audiences’ attention for his portrayal of Dr. Victor Ehrlich on the long-running hit television series
St. Elsewhere, for which he received six Emmy nominations. Since then, Begley has appeared in feature films, television and theatre projects, including the movies
A Mighty Wind,
Best In Show, and
For Your Consideration. Currently, he is the co-star of the hit Planet Green series Living with Ed, a look at the day-to-day realities of “living green” with his wife Rachelle Carson, who doesn’t always share his enthusiasm about rain barrels.
When it comes to taking personal responsibility for the environment, few individuals can match Begley’s record. Known for turning up at Hollywood events on his bicycle, he is currently one of the hottest speakers on eco-living in North America. Begley’s speech,
Live Simply So That Others Can Simply Live, has received standing ovations at over 200 events in the last four years. His empowering and light-hearted message on sustainable living includes:
- How he began his eco-journey in 1970, including humorous stories about his first electric car and his initial attempts at composting
- “Everything I have done for the environment has also been good for my pocketbook.”
- California’s success in cleaning up smog: It didn’t hurt business – the economy thrived
- Global climate change, pollution, dependency on Mid-East oil – these are challenges that can be overcome
- Products and services that he has used that work
- “Our planet is an asset with value. Let’s not treat it like a going-out-of-business sale!”
In additional to Begley’s appearance, attendees will enjoy other green-themed seminars at
The Spring Cottage Life Show:
- Healthy Shoreline Habitats presented by Ontario Stewardship
- Going Solar for On and Off-Grid Power Solutions presented by Evergreen Power Ltd.
- A shoreline display by the Centre for Sustainable Watersheds at the Paddling Demonstration Pool
- Interactive fun with snakes, butterflies, turtles, and bats in the Family Activity Centre
There are also dozens of exhibitors featuring environmentally-conscious products and services geared towards cottage and city living including building products, shoreline restoration services, septic systems, water treatment systems, composting toilets, green cleaners, and alternative energy.
